LOOK: Sorsogon Governor Boboy Hamor warmly welcomed Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas to the province during the latter’s courtesy visit to the capitol. Governor Mandanas graced Sorsogon as a keynote speaker at the ongoing Southern Luzon conference of the Philippine Association of Local Government Accountants (PHALGA).
Governor Boboy commended Governor Mandanas for his proactive stance in advocating for the proper share of local governments from national taxes, a move that led to the landmark Mandanas – Garcia ruling by the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
The ruling, which altered the fiscal landscape of local government units (LGUs), expanded their revenue sources beyond the fixed Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) to include a share of all national taxes.
This decision has significant implications for LGUs, empowering them with greater financial resources to fulfill their mandate of delivering essential services to their communities.
