Central Bicolano: Ciudad nin Sorsogon; Tagalog: Lungsod ng Sorsogon; A third class city and capital of the Province of Sorsogon, the city was formed in the year 2000 by the merging of Bacon and Sorsogon towns. The city’s total population is spread across 64 barangays. It serves as transhipment point from the Visayas and Mindanao islands, and is dubbed as the “Gateway to Southern Philippines”. Sorsogon City is one of the region’s leading cities in urbanization and the most promising city in terms of development.

Bolo

The people of Barangay Gatbo, Bacon District take pride in its Bolo(Itak) Knife. Bolo making is one of the main sources of livelihood for this barangay. Bolo is a large cutting tool similar to the machete. Its primary use is clearing vegetation, whether for agriculture or trail blazing. It is also used in Filipino martial arts or Arnis as part or the training.
